Earlier this week, Instagram released Guides to everyone. The concept behind Guides is to make it easier to find, curate and share the products, places and posts you love from your favorite accounts on Instagram.
It’s tough to understand Guides – why would you use it? What’s it for?
I made a Guide to explain Instagram’s latest features – and went in-depth on how and why to use Guides. For the full guide to everything Instagram added in November, click here.
First introduced back in May, Guides are a way to create longer form content based on existing posts.
Instagram describes Guides as “making it easier to find, curate and share the products, places and posts you love from your favorite accounts on Instagram.”
You can now create Guides based on 3 different types of content ‑ Places (to recommend locations in your city and beyond), Products (to recommend your favorite products), and Posts (to recommend posts you’ve created or saved).
At first I didn’t get the concept at all. Why would you want this? How would you create content for it?
Now that I have used it to create this Guide, I understand more. If you have saved other people’s posts, you can curate them into a Guide. You could make a Guide for the best restaurants in your town, your favorite Disney World rides, your favorite hair care products, or anything else.
To access Guides, go to your profile tab, tap the “+” key in the top right corner, and select “Guides” to get started.
Hint: Guides can be shared on Stories and in DMs. Product Guides may be featured in Instagram Shop!
